The Library: Comics
I like to tell stories with my artwork. I like to draw dynamic scenes and poses, interesting angles, I like it when a person sees what I've drawn and responds with something along the lines of, "It looks like he's doing this" or "Oh, I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of THAT weapon!" I have fun telling stories, making them up, working on them, making them work.
I have the most fun at this when I'm teaming up with someone, and we write a story together. Often, it's a "jam", meaning that one starts a story, the other continues on it, and back to the first one. I like the technique of having my own character (or characters) while the other person has his, and we just fill up the blank spaces, improvising on what the other person has left us to work with.
Here are a couple of stories I've worked "in combo" on. Click the icon to read the pages.

SPACE PIRATES! This comic does get updated, albeit at an irregular schedule, and is the combined effort of 4 gamers with too much time on their lunchbreaks. Rob St.Martin, Rich Morris, Ian Bourgault and I made this wacky comic about, well, space pirates. You just have to go see. No, really. Go see. NOW. (This comic will open in a new browser window.) |

This is a combined effort with Greg Woronchak, the creator of Pike Armstrong and a good friend of mine at the studio. When we worked on Sagwa storyboard corrections, we would spend our slow or off time working on this silly comic set in the futuristic city of Megatropolis. I drew Máire and the raccoons, Ron and Moe, while he drew Pike and the demented walrus Sweet Tooth. We never continued it because I went off to work freelance on storyboards, and eventually so did he. However, we hope to collaborate again on a comic soon. For now, enjoy this wacky comic with corny dialogue! |

One of the first kind of collaboration comics I ever did of the kind was done with such silhouette characters. Whenever I draw silhouettes, I always play Lynn, a werewolf character from the White Wolf World Of Darkness roleplaying games. This one is a more recent episode with Xzx, Ian's Teenagers From Outer Space character, that we did together on a day well spent doodling at Second Cup. It's silly and doesn't make much sense, but I hope you'll enjoy it anyways. |

This is an ooooold one, from back when I was working at Cinar. Rich Morris and I had just finished a silhouette strip (he's the one who introduced me to them) and we wanted to do something different. So he drew the girl, and I drew the guy. We both have improved a LOT in our artwork, but this one was still fun to do. Sadly, I was laid off and we never continued this one... |
Then there are the stories I've done on my own. They are fun to do, and more finished, but I don't do them as often because of the lack of interaction with another person... I've become addicted to teamwork and deadlines, I guess ;)
